What Is Breech Presentation

Breech presentation means baby is sitting head-up instead of head-down as you approach the third trimester. By 36 weeks, about 3 to 4 percent of babies are in some kind of breech position.

Babies move into a head-down position naturally when they have the room and the freedom to do so. When they do not turn, it is often because the pelvis is out of balance: a rotated sacrum, tight ligaments, or uneven pelvic muscle tension can leave baby with less room and fewer cues to turn.

The Webster Technique is not a turning technique. It is a balancing technique. The goal is to give baby the maximum room to turn on their own.

When to Start Webster Care for Breech

The ideal window is between 30 and 34 weeks. The earlier we can rebalance the pelvis, the more time baby has to turn naturally. We still see results later than 34 weeks but the window narrows as you approach delivery.

Many patients also start Webster care earlier in pregnancy as a preventive approach if they have a history of breech or pelvic misalignment.

How We Treat Breech Presentation

Webster Technique visits for breech support typically run two to three times per week from the time you start until baby turns or until you reach delivery.

Each visit includes:

  • A specific sacral adjustment to balance the pelvis

  • Gentle release of the round ligaments

  • Soft-tissue work on the surrounding pelvic muscles

  • Positioning homework (some of the same techniques used by Spinning Babies)

  • A close eye on what baby is doing between visits

We also coordinate with your OB or midwife and let them know exactly what we are doing. Webster pairs well with other evidence-based breech techniques (Spinning Babies, moxibustion, ECV).

Why Choose Us

Dr. Lisel is Webster certified and has worked with many breech presentations. The work is gentle, the time commitment is short, and the cost is low compared to the alternatives. Even if baby does not turn, a balanced pelvis is meaningful preparation for birth.
